Abstract: I will provide an overview (geared towards non-experts) of the recent developments in understanding the classification and (generalized) global symmetries of 5d superconformal field theories (SCFTs). I will be focusing mainly on the developments made possible by studying surface geometries associated to these 5d SCFTs, which encode the rich physics associated to the Coulomb branch of vacua of 5d SCFTs.
